Poepera Research Summit 2016

“Poepera Research Summit 2016”，Guangzhou, China. 17 -19 June, 2016.

Poepera is an interpretive recitation of poetry with background performance onstage. As a innovative literary or artistic form, poepera, coined by Prof. Zhang Guangkui, is a new combination of poem and opera. Poepera aims to research into the possibilities of intuitive poem interpretation onstage. Its academic significance lies in defining poepera as a kind of poetic text interpretation with the artistic form of the theme background and musical onstage. As a new performing art, poepera has made a breakthrough in both poetry and opera.

As the keynote speakers, along with other scholars, were invited to make the speeches in “Poepera Research Summit 2016” Presenting their views on the expressive forms of poetry and poetics, the scholars held heated discussions about criticism and research in poepera on the morning of June 18.

Scholars and participants conduct the poetry recitation and the teaching seminar of poetry at the afternoon.

The experimental performance of poepera is held in the Student Activity Center of Guangdong University of Finance & Economics in the evening. 

The performance of Book of Songs.

The first-class performer, Liang Yurong, performs the songs “Viewing the Moon, Yearning for You”(《望月怀远》 ), “Rosy Clouds Chasing the Moon”(《彩云追月》).

Prof. Zhang Guangkui’s performance of poetry “Since Edinburgh”, “Spring, the Sweet Spring” with the performed forms by rap and beat-box. 

Other chorus performers from Department of International Studies, Nanfang College of SunYet-San University perform the songs of “the Lime Tree” and the adapted poetry of Emily Dickinson’s “Hope”.

The experimental performance of poepera fulfills a great success.
